anyone see the recent cnn special on jonestown?

it really bothered me, particularly when listening to the survivors talk about the amount of control exerted over them; they were afraid, terrified, couldn't just walk away, family members were snitching on each other, families were split up in the end, tugged out of arms, they were well dressed seemingly happy people who were clapping and cheering until you looked in their eyes.. the similarities with the jws isstaggering.

dread - they do though, not as obviously but how many commit suicide by not taking blood, or in the past by refusing vacinations or organ transplants - it's all suicide.

just back from lunch and met two different former good friends from my congregation (i live in a small town) and they, of course, turned their backs on me... and it makes me feel strange and bad even though they're the ones who should really feel bad.... how can i learn to ignore it??.

makes me both sad and angry at the same time.

grrrr.

it is crap, I'm not DFed/DAed just faded but hate seeing ex-JWs who either shun me or we have an awkward small-talk conversation. I normally just hide, but then how crap is that - having to hide from people?

as the man the bible describes, no I don't.

there was probably a character the bible Jesus was based on though, or he could have been based on a few 'prophets' or teachers around at that time.

"Re Ninja saying he "stays in a close", this is unique to Scotland, in England we would just say "I live in a...." well, actually, we don't have closes down here either.

We live on the same island and we can't agree. Never mind the differences between England and the U.S!'

MM - we say close in England too, you can call a cul-de-sac a close (in the Midlands anyway)
